Bukit Batok residents get help more easily with new social service office

SINGAPORE - Bukit Batok residents can now get help more easily, with a new social service office in the area. It was officially opened by Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin on Thursday.

Located at Block 369 Bukit Batok Street 31, it is just a few minutes' walk from Bukit Gombak MRT station. Previously, residents seeking help had to travel farther to South West Community Development Council in Jurong.

The Bukit Batok office started operations last December and is the 18th such office officially opened since last year. It has been helping at least 500 residents, mainly families with young children, since it was set up.

Besides offering financial help, it also works with voluntary welfare organisations and community partners in the areas to better coordinate the social services they offer.

The Government aims to set up 24 social service offices by this June.

Along with family service centres, the offices will put help within 2km of where 95 per cent of needy residents live or work.
