To better engage volunteers, the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) will hire volunteer management consultants to work with non-profit organisations. This was announced by Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong in Parliament on Friday.
The Ministry will work with NVPC to develop this initiative where non-profit organisations will be able to tap on the consultants' services, to build the organisations' volunteer management capabilities, said Mr Wong.
He said he hoped to see more volunteers build long-term relationships with charities. They are more likely to commit when they found fulfilment in their volunteering experience, he added.
A recent NVPC survey found that more Singaporeans are volunteering, but spent less time doing so. Many also volunteer only occasionally and on an informal basis, meaning it is not done via any organisation.
