Brothers aged 10 and 11 arrested for throwing small speaker and vehicle battery out of flat

Two brothers aged 10 and 11 have been arrested for throwing a small speaker and vehicle battery out of their flat in Dover Road.

On Tuesday, a man informed the police that a vehicle battery had been thrown from a high floor of Block 4. At the time, the complainant and his friends had been sitting at a nearby pavilion when the battery landed near them.

The men and his friends then went to look for the person who threw the speaker and spotted a 10-year-old boy at the common corridor of the block, said a police statement on Wednesday.

The boy was later arrested by officers from the Queenstown Neighbourhood Police Centre. When interviewed by the officers, it was revealed that the boy and his 11-year-old brother had also thrown a small speaker from their flat earlier that day.

Investigations are on-going, said the police.

Commander of Clementi Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Melvin Yong thanked the informant and his friends for their public spiritedness in locating the boys.

DAC Yong said: "Such irresponsible acts cannot be viewed as simple acts of mischief as the vehicle battery could have seriously injured or killed someone. Police will not hesitate to take firm action against the offenders."
