Boy, 8, dies after getting hit by car in Eu Tong Sen Street

An eight-year-old boy died of injuries sustained in a car accident on Wednesday while he was returning home with his grandfather after a swim.

Police said the accident occurred around 6.50pm in Eu Tong Sen Street towards Hill Street.

Two people were taken to hospital. The Straits Times understands they are the grandfather, 66, and his grandson.

The two had just gone for a swim and were on their way home, Lianhe Wanbao reported.

It is understood that after the boy was hit by a car, he flew into the path of another car, but was not hit a second time.

A witness told the Chinese newspaper that the grandfather appeared stunned when he could not find his grandson.

When he saw his grandson lying on the road, he knelt by the boy and called out his name until help arrived, the witness said.

The boy later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Police investigations are ongoing.
