Panda Jia Jia from the River Safari sniffing a "birthday cake". The park's most popular residents, panda duo Kai Kai and Jia Jia, celebrated their birthdays yesterday afternoon in front of about 100 visitors. They were given frozen cakes decorated with chopped carrots and red apples to mark the occasion, with Jia Jia's lightly drizzled with honey and Kai Kai's topped with a green apple. Kai Kai turns 10 next Thursday, while Jia Jia turned nine on Sunday. The pair have not yet been able to produce a baby, but Wildlife Reserves Singapore is hopeful that next year could be the year.
