SINGAPORE – Mother- and baby-care brand Pigeon is conducting a voluntary recall of one of its steam steriliser models sold in Singapore.

The Japanese brand announced the recall of its Pigeon SuperFast Steam & Dry Sterilizer on Aug 30, citing the move as a precautionary measure “following concerns that the product may pose a potential overheating risk”, which may cause some parts of the product to melt.

While the likelihood of this occurring is low, the company “strongly recommends an immediate discontinuation of use”, Pigeon said in a statement.

The steriliser works by boiling water, generating steam that circulates inside the machine, according to Pigeon’s website. The steam sterilises its contents, killing bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms.

As at Aug 30, there have been a total of 26 reported cases in Singapore that may be linked to the steriliser overheating, said a Pigeon spokesperson in response to queries, adding that other products from the brand are not impacted by the recall and are safe for customers to continue using.

A total of 2,051 units of the Pigeon SuperFast Steam & Dry Sterilizer have been sold in Singapore. It was first released in March 2023.

Pigeon said it will be stepping up its checks and implementing enhanced safety measures to eliminate the risk of overheating for future batches.

Customers who have purchased the steriliser will be eligible for a refund of $205 via the
