Myanmar's opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi began her first visit to Singapore on Friday by calling on Second Minister for Foreign Affairs Grace Fu.

They met at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in the afternoon and Ms Fu reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between Singapore and Myanmar.

Ms Fu, who is also a Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, also conveyed Singapore's continued commitment to supporting Myanmar's economic and social development, said MFA in a statement.

In turn, Ms Suu Kyi shared with Ms Fu her work as a Member of Parliament in Myanmar and her thoughts on the challenges faced by the people as the country goes through a transition.

Ms Suu Kyi was later briefed by the Economic Development Board on its role in creating a conducive business environment to attract foreign investments into Singapore.

On Friday night, she will attend the Singapore Summit Welcome Dinner, where Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong is set to deliver the keynote address.
