SINGAPORE – Five passengers were injured after an accident involving three public buses in Yishun on Oct 15, with three of them taken to hospital.

Bus operator Tower Transit Singapore said in a Facebook post that the accident took place at Block 790 Yishun Avenue 2 at about 3.05pm.

Its Service 853 bus rear-ended a Service 852 bus, causing a chain collision with a Service 851 bus, Tower Transit added.

Services 852 and 851 are operated by SBS Transit.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said in a media reply that it took three people to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Another two were assessed for minor injuries but declined to be taken to hospital, it added.

The three taken conscious to hospital are a 75-year-old male passenger and two female passengers, aged 48 and 52, said the police in a media reply.

A 35-year-old male bus driver is assisting with investigations.

SBS Transit spokesperson Grace Wu said in a media reply that the five passengers who were injured were on the Service 852 bus.

Wu added that SBS Transit’s team has spoken to two of the passengers in hospital. “We... are still trying to reach the remaining passenger to check on their well-being and offer any assistance they may need.”

There were no injuries reported on Service 851, and the bus drivers of both the SBS Transit buses involved were not hurt, Wu said.

Passengers on both SBS Transit buses who were not injured were transferred to other buses to continue their journeys, Wu added.

Tower Transit had earlier said six people were injured in the accident.

It added in an updated Facebook post at 4.55pm that it is trying to contact the passengers who had been taken to hospital.

“We’re really sorry for the hurt and inconvenience this has caused them and other road users,” it said.

Tower Transit added that it is working with the traffic police, the Land Transport Authority and SBS Transit on investigations.

Passengers affected can contact 1800 248 0950 or e-mail feedback@towertransit.sg, said Tower Transit.
