Assistant technician jailed for molesting friend's 11-year-old daughter

An assistant technician who molested the daughter of his friend was sentenced to 26 months' jail on Thursday.

Selvarajoo Francis, 50, had admitted to lying on top and rubbing himself on the 11-year-old girl at a staircase landing of a block of flats in the east on July 30 last year.

A second charge of squeezing her breasts repeatedly was considered during his sentencing.

District Judge Lee Poh Choo agreed with the prosecution that there were aggravating factors in this case.

"It is wicked and shameful of you at 49 years old to force yourself on an 11-year-old victim. She is just a child,'' she told him.

The judge said it was particularly aggravating that he was a friend of the victim's family, who trusted him, and that was why he was allowed to be with the victim alone.

The court heard earlier that Selvarajoo turned up at the flat past midnight that day and asked to speak to the victim. The victim's sister woke her up and the girl sat with Selvarajoo at the dining table.

He left but returned shortly to ask to see the victim again. He took her to the staircase landing on the sixth floor and committed the offence.

He could have been jailed for up to five years or fined or both. He cannot be caned as he is above 50.
