At 3.30pm on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam will announce the Government's 2013 budget.
Ahead of that, we look at where the bulk of public money has been spent from 2006 to 2012.
Social spending has consistently taken the biggest portion of the pie, almost doubling between 2006 and 2012. The biggest share in this sector has always gone to education, followed by national development.
Experts expect social spending to increase steadily over the next few years as policymakers look at forging inclusive growth, that is, growth which creates economic opportunities along with ensuring equal access to them.
The second largest chunk has gone to security and external relations, much of which is spent on defence. Within this seven-year period, expenditure by the Ministry of Defence rose about 27 per cent.
Although spending on info comms and media development occupies only a small portion of the pie, spending in this area - which comes under the economic development sector - has jumped five fold over this period.
