An entity calling itself the Singapore Company Register has been requesting companies to verify their details with it, but the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) said it has "no links whatsover" to this entity and is investigating the matter.

In a statement on Tuesday, ACRA - the national regulator of business entities and public accountants here - said letters by the Singapore Company Register claim that companies which fail to verify their details will have their information deleted from the "Singaporean Company Register database" within one or two weeks of the date of the notice.

ACRA said companies are not obliged to provide details to the Singapore Company Register, and they should update their records with ACRA only through its online filing and information retrieval system at www.bizfile.gov.sg

For more information, companies can contact ACRA at 6248-6028 or go to www.acra.gov.sg/enquiry
