Accused in Geylang Bahru armed robbery also faces drug charges

A Malaysian general worker who was charged with an armed robbery in Geylang Bahru now faces three drug-related offences.

Lee Heong Chye, 35, allegedly robbed Ms Chung Yi Ren, 33, of her iPhone worth $300, cash of $200, US$200 (S$251), a $1,500 watch, a credit card and three ATM cards while armed with a penknife at the multi-storey carpark at Block 60A Geylang Bahru on Dec 1. The fresh charges accuse him of taking morphine, having a packet of 0.17g of heroin and smoking utensils near Royal Plaza on Scotts along Scotts Road on Dec 4.

The prosecution asked for two weeks to complete investigations.

Lee, who has been offered $30,000 bail, will return to court on Jan 10.

If convicted of armed robbery, he faces a jail term of three to 14 years and at least 12 strokes of the cane.
