National Day is an occasion when the country remembers its past and celebrates its achievements. Melody Zaccheus and Tan Tam Mei reflect on how society can better preserve its heritage and recognise its everyday heroes.

When Aug 9 comes around every year, it is hard to escape the patriotic messages and rousing ditties on the radio or social media.

Some of us groan "not again" and are quick to switch radio stations. When the music videos pop up online, we scroll past quickly.
