About 800 residents of Chua Chu Kang GRC and Hong Kah North SMC wore traditional costumes and danced for more than three hours at the Dandiya Night 2015 last night, a traditional Gujarati mass dance event in celebration of the Hindu festival of Navaratri, dedicated to the worship of the deity Durga, and a celebration of womanhood. The event was held at the Chua Chu Kang Community Club and was attended by Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Health, and Ms Low Yen Ling, Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Industry and Education. The Dandiya Raas dance, performed during the Navaratri festival, is a Gujarati traditional folk dance where men and women dance in a circle with two colourfully decorated sticks in their hands (Dandiyas).
