SINGAPORE - While most boys his age are playing video games into the wee hours of the morning, Muhammad Nur Izeyar Yazid is up at 3am to pack dozens of Malay kuih, or snacks, for his father to sell them at the workers' dormitories in Tuas.

The 18-year-old, who has been doing it daily for the past six years, goes back to sleep when he is done, and wakes up at 5.30am to go to Pioneer Junior College (JC).
