9 nabbed for sale and distribution of counterfeit products

Police on Tuesday arrested four men and five women, aged between 27 and 44 years old, for suspected involvement in the sale and distribution of counterfeit products.

They were nabbed during a 12-hour operation conducted by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in the Bugis area over the past few months.

During the operation, officers conducted simultaneous raids at 12 locations and seized around 6,600 pieces of goods, which bear the falsely-applied trademarks of well-known cartoon characters. They have an estimated street value of about $108,000. Investigations against the arrested subjects are on-going.

Persons found guilty of selling or distributing counterfeit products, may be fined up to $10,000 per article, up to a total maximum fine of $100,000, or an imprisonment term which may extend to five years, or both.
