Commonly mistaken as a made-in-Hong Kong product, Axe brand medicated oil can trace its roots back to 1928 - when a young immigrant from China set up the Leung Kai Fook Medical Company in Singapore to produce the medicated formula.

The product and brand which has stayed in the family over the past few decades, is one of 50 made-in-Singapore products that the National Heritage Board will be showcasing in an exhibition as a result of a research project that aims to trace the growth of the Republic's manufacturing industry.

The exhibition slated to open in mid-2014, is also part of the board's efforts to mark 50 years of Singapore's independence in 2015.

Other products that will be on display include Diethelm furniture and aluminium products, Khong Guan biscuits and Setron televisions.
