50 decorative plates donated to raise funds for Care and Share Movement

SINGAPORE - Fifty huge decorative plates to commemorate the nation's Jubilee year were donated to the Care and Share Movement on Friday evening. Care and Share is a national fund-raising and volunteerism movement led by the Community Chest.

The plates, which are each 50cm in diameter, were donated by local tableware companies Landex (Singapore) and Luzerne.

They will be auctioned off by the participating charities at a minimum bid of $2,688 each.

Receiving the plates at the SG50 We Love Tampines Carnival was Education Minister Heng Swee Keat, who is also MP for Tampines GRC.

He spoke on the importance of upholding former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew's legacy even as the nation celebrates its first National Day without him.

"We need to build on the legacy that he has given us, to make Singapore even more successful," he said.
