SINGAPORE - A 43-year-old man has been arrested for an alleged series of shop theft cases at supermarkets islandwide, the police said in a news release on Friday (Jan 29).

On Jan 16, police received a report on a theft of abalone, with similar reports over the next few days.

Through extensive ground enquiries and investigation, Clementi Division and Jurong Division police officers were able to establish the identity of the suspect. He was arrested along Jurong West Street 61 on Thursday (Jan 28).

He is expected to be charged in court on Saturday (Jan 30).

If found guilty of shop theft, the man may face a maximum jail term of up to seven years and a fine.
