SINGAPORE - A 36-year-old van driver died after an accident with a tipper truck in Tuas on Thursday (June 15) afternoon.

The accident occurred at 3.45pm along Tuas South Avenue 5, near Tuas South Way, the police told The Straits Times on Friday.

The man was trapped in his vehicle, and the Singapore Civil Defence Force rescued him using hydraulic rescue tools.

He was taken to the National University Hospital, but died there.

The man, identified by Shin Min Daily News in a report on Friday as Mr Deng Zhizhong, was a delivery driver.

His father Mr Deng told Shin Min that his wife had died from cancer late last year, and he did not expect that this would happen to his son.

"When we rushed to the hospital, the doctor came out from the operating theatre and said it was bad," he said. "My son died at 9pm after being taken to the Intensive Care Unit."
