SINGAPORE – Around 25 people were evacuated after a fire broke out on Singapore Polytechnic’s campus on the afternoon of Oct 1.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that they were alerted to the fire at 500 Dover Road at about 3.30pm.

It involved a storage area in a laboratory on the first floor, SCDF said.

About 25 people were evacuated from the affected building by staff.

The fire was extinguished with a water jet, and there were no reported injuries.

In pictures of the incident shared on Xiaohongshu, plumes of black smoke can be seen rising above a building.

In response to queries, a polytechnic spokesperson said that the safety of its staff and students is a top priority.

The spokesperson added that the polytechnic is unable to provide further information as the cause of the fire is under investigation.
