The Ministry of Education (MOE) awarded 202 teaching scholarships and awards to aspiring teachers at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel on Friday.
Describing teaching as the "one of the most demanding professions in the world", Education Minister Heng Swee Keat called on the students to build a strong foundation in content knowledge in order to help students master the subject.
Teachers will also need to adopt a student-centric teaching approach and innovate teaching approaches constantly to keep up with the times, he said.
They must also care for their students, and impart values that will shape the character of the youths, added Mr Heng. Last year, nearly 300 students received the teaching scholarship award.
