SINGAPORE - Some 20,000 figurines will be given out on MRT trains from now till March next year as part of a HomeTeamNS campaign to recognise the Home Team's national servicemen and their families.

The miniature figurines, which feature a policeman, a firefighter and members of the pioneer generation, among others, will be available on hangers in MRT trains on the North-South (NSL) and North-East (NEL) lines as part of HomeTeamNS Celebrates Life.

One train on the NEL will carry the first batch of figurines from Saturday until Sunday, Jan 25. The second batch of miniatures will be carried on an NSL train from Saturday, Feb 21, until Sunday, March 29. The figurines will be replenished each weekend.

The hand-crafted clay figurines, created with local artist and miniaturist Quek Kin, represent "the closest people whom we treasure in our life and a reminder why we call Singapore our home", HomeTeamNS said in a statement on Saturday. The set of nine will not be available for purchase anywhere else.

Said HomeTeamNS chief executive Agnes Eu: "We are constantly thinking of new and innovative ways to engage as well as recognise our NSmen. Through this campaign, we hope to spread more awareness about our Home Team NSmen's contributions and simply tell them - thank you for everything that you have done to protect and save lives."
