SINGAPORE - Two people were taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a Housing Board flat in Punggol on Jan 14 night.

About 60 other people were also evacuated from their homes in the neighbouring flats.

The fire at 229A Sumang Lane “involved an overheated cooking stove” and was extinguished with a water jet, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), which added that it was alerted to the incident at 11.05pm.

, a 3.7 per cent increase from the 935 fires in 2022, according to statistics released by SCDF in February 2024.

Blazes due to unattended cooking made up the largest proportion of fires in residential buildings.
