SINGAPORE - Two more suspects - a French woman and a Dutch man - have been arrested in connection with a case of cheating that involved a sum of $1.5 million.

Police officers from Clementi Police Division arrested the 36-year-old woman and 46-year-old man at a hotel along Havelock Road on Tuesday (Sept 5), after follow-up investigations.

They recovered more than $730,000 from the pair.

The police had earlier charged a 36-year-old French man and a 39-year-old Romanian man with the offence of cheating with common intention.

A firm had lodged a report saying it was cheated of $1.5 million in a ploy involving the purchase of a vessel using counterfeit notes.

The two new suspects will be charged with the same offence of cheating with common intention.

If convicted, they can be jailed for up to 10 years and may also be fined.

The police in their statement on Tuesday night said they do not condone such brazen acts and will spare no effort to catch the perpetrators.
