Fourteen women were inducted into the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame last night in recognition of their contributions to Singapore and beyond. Mrs Mary Tan (centre), wife of President Tony Tan Keng Yam and patron of the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations (SCWO), presented them with trophies at Shangri-La Hotel, alongside SCWO president Malathi Das (second from left). The inductees included (from left) former sprint champion Eleanor Ann Clunies-Ross, 82, as well as Ms Mary Beatrice Klass, 80, and Ms Janet Jesudason, 80, who both represented Singapore in track and field at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Also honoured were Ms Violet Oon, 66, who has championed Singapore cuisine around the world as a chef and journalist, and orthopaedic surgeon Ang Swee Chai, 67, who worked in war-torn Lebanon in 1982. The latter was not present at the ceremony.
