SINGAPORE - The maternity wards of hospitals in Singapore were kept extra busy on National Day.

A total of 129 Singaporean babies were born on August 9, up from 91 who were born on National Day last year.

The number of babies were announced by an elated Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Grace Fu on Monday.

"Congrats to all the parents," wrote Ms Fu on Facebook.

The Minister who oversees population matters also posted on Facebook a video on the SG50 babies and their parents.

"Being a parent myself, this video definitely struck a chord with me," she said in the post.
