SINGAPORE - The 12-year-old girl who was hit by a car at Yio Chu Kang has regained consciousness.

The Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao reported on Wednesday that Alenna New is currently under observation in the intensive care unit at the KK Women's and Children's Hospital.

On Monday, the primary school pupil was on her way home from school when she was hit by a car travelling on Yio Chu Kang road towards Upper Serangoon Road.

Her family, who visited her on Tuesday afternoon, told Wanbao that Alenna is usually careful when crossing the road, and they have no idea how the accident happened.

Police investigations are ongoing.
