SINGAPORE - A 24-year-old construction worker from India died on Tuesday in an industrial accident near the Yio Chu Kang flyover.

The man was pronounced dead on the spot by paramedics at about 11am, said the Singapore Civil Defence Force.

Three other construction workers were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital in serious condition, it added.

Two men, aged 30 and 34, are also from India, while the other 25-year-old worker is from Bangladesh.

The police said the three were conscious when conveyed to hospital.

All four men are believed to have fallen from a height of about 6m.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said in a statement that the four were working on top of a temporary working platform - used for the widening of the flyover near the existing Yio Chu Kang flyover - when the platform gave way.

"The structure of the existing flyover is not affected by this incident. LTA is assisting the Ministry of Manpower with the investigations," said a LTA spokesman.

"LTA will work with the contractor to do what we can to assist the affected workers and their family members," he added.

The Straits Times has contacted the Ministry of Manpower and the workers' employer for comments.

Police are investigating the unnatural death.
