Gearing up for GE: Will there be an Aljunied surprise?

Eleven opposition parties are likely to contest the coming election, the largest number since Independence. The Sunday Times looks at how the opposition is preparing for the polls.

Singapore's main opposition party, the Workers' Party (WP), goes into the general election with fresh blood at the top in the form of Mr Pritam Singh, who took over from veteran Low Thia Khiang 18 months ago. But he faces two tough issues on the campaign trail ahead.

One is to do with Aljunied GRC. Once the WP's jewel in the crown, it emerged from the 2015 General Election looking vulnerable after the party barely held on to the five-member constituency with 50.95 per cent of the vote.
