SINGAPORE - The 2015 General Election was special in many ways.

It was held in a Jubilee year. A record number of seats and wards were contested. It saw a surge in the number opposition parties, as well as the return of independent candidates.

The People's Action Party was returned to power with an unexpectedly wide margin after huge turnouts at rallies held by the Workers' Party and the Singapore Democratic Party lulled many into thinking that the opposition was gaining on the ruling party.
