Fifty-eight-year-old Mr Sergio Ermotti, group chief executive of Switzerland's prestigious bank UBS, rose through the ranks in his industry after vocational training.

Finishing school at age 15, he worked in a bank in his Swiss hometown, moving from the mail room to the trading floor.
