SINGAPORE - The public can inspect President Halimah Yacob's election expenses at the Elections Department (ELD) from Saturday (Oct 7).

The returns of election expenses for candidates in last month's presidential election will be available for inspection for six months, said the ELD said in a statement on Friday.

Madam Halimah was the only one of three presidential hopefuls who qualified to stand for election, and she was elected unopposed on Nomination Day on Sept 13.

While there was no contest, President Halimah is understood to have incurred expenses, including from her website, which she would have to declare.

Under the Presidential Elections Act, a candidate's principal election agents must submit a declaration and return of election expenses within 31 days after the result of the election is published in the Government Gazette.

According to a notice published in the Gazette on Friday, President Halimah filed her returns on Tuesday.

It will cost $2 to inspect the returns, which can be done on any working day at the ELD.

The ELD said those who wish to inspect the records should inform them at least one working day in advance, via e-mail (candidates@eld.gov.sg) or phone (1800-225-5353) to minimise waiting times.
