From arranging for gas suppliers for hawkers to helping shopowners upgrade, merchants' associations are a key linchpin in local communities.
As independent entities registered under the Registry of Societies, they represent hawkers and shopowners in communicating with grassroots organisations, town councils and government agencies. The associations also facilitate bonding in the local business community.
