SINGAPORE - The Singapore Democratic Alliance will head to the nomination centre with "confidence and commitment", said its chairman Desmond Lim Bak Chuan.

The SDA team will contest Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and is expected to face a People's Action Party team helmed by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean.

Speaking at the PKMS building on Tuesday (Sept 1) morning before heading to Fengshan Primary School, Mr Lim noted that the SDA has many ready assenters this time, compared to the 2006 and 2011 General Elections.

"This could be as we have been walking the ground in Pasir Ris-Punggol," he said.

The charity he founded - DL's Caring Community - distributes about 4,000 packets of rice daily, including about 200 packets in the area, he noted.

While the PAP team may be more known due to Mr Teo, the DPM also has his detractors among residents in the ward, he said.

SDA introduced three new candidates on Monday evening - sales director Ong Teik Seng, president of the Singapore National Malay Organisation Abu Mohamed, and quality assurance manager Wong Way Weng.

They will join Mr Lim, SDA chief media officer Harminder Pal Singh and film director Arthero Lim on SDA's ticket.
