Celebrating Hari Raya as a community

Marine Parade GRC MP Fatimah Lateef, Home Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam and Senior Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs Maliki Osman yesterday joined more than 150 religious, community and youth leaders at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri reception dinner at Wisma Geylang Serai. The goodwill event to celebrate the recently concluded Ramadan month was hosted by Singapore Press Holdings' Malay-language newspaper Berita Harian and Wisma Geylang Serai, an integrated culture hub which opened last month at the site of the former Malay Village. Dr Maliki said the partnership between Wisma Geylang Serai and Berita Harian is central to community bonding and building, as the paper provides a platform for the Malay community to voice its views on issues which concern it. A highlight yesterday was a discussion where Mr Shanmugam, Dr Maliki and Berita Harian editor Saat Rahman addressed topics such as religion and youth. There were also musical and dance performances during the two-hour dinner.
