What will happen when Trump and Xi meet?

The upcoming summits between the two leaders may calm markets but not the rivalry.

We now know that the two most powerful men on earth – US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping – will

meet at the Apec summit in end-October in South Korea

, where the expectation is that they will at least make nice; enough to pave the way for more substantial talks to happen after.

We also know that Mr Trump has accepted an invitation to travel to Beijing in early 2026 to meet Mr Xi again, where the bigger problems will predictably get some kind of fix or at least a Band-Aid.
