University admissions: NUS and NTU need to cast net wider, faster

NUS and NTU are broadening their admissions criteria beyond grades, and giving out more university places based on aptitude. But they need to do this faster.

The two biggest local universities here are taking steps to broaden their admissions net further, in a move that will benefit school leavers vying for a university place from this year.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) said recently that they are taking further steps to use a wider range of criteria to allocate places.
