The ongoing money-laundering case involving several Chinese nationals had some Singaporeans up in arms over how those of Fujian or Anxi descent were unfairly labelled as “crooks”.

Members of the Singapore Ann Kway Association, in particular, cried foul when some media reports said that Anxi county, where their ancestors hailed from, had transformed from a tea capital to a “fraudsters’ home town”.
