SINGAPORE - With the government raising the issue of inequality into a national priority to be tackled "vigorously", Singaporeans can hope for a comprehensive look at the issue and concrete, yet overarching, ways to deal with its effects.

Last week's debate in Parliament on the issue, following President Halimah Yacob's opening address that spotlighted the issue, was thus reassuring on several fronts.
