Telemedicine: A reality check

With the age of virtual doctors looming, concerns about quality of care are being raised. But the same principles of good medical practice exist, be it through telemedicine or a physical clinic.

At a seminar I recently attended, "Embracing a Safe Digital Health Future for Singapore", the discussion mirrored concerns of doctors, regulators, providers and the public about telemedicine. Some went so far as to suggest that education in medical schools needs to be modified for a future steeped in telemedicine.

But is telemedicine really so disruptive a technology?
