“When governments put up 10-foot walls, people come up with 11-foot ladders.” That quote by Mr Louis-Vincent Gave, the chief executive of the Hong Kong-based research and fund management company Gavekal, referred to what typically happens in the world of technology.
But, as a metaphor, it also applies to other areas, such as business, trade and currency markets. People, companies and even countries are adept at finding creative workarounds when they face obstacles.
