When the lecturer asked the class what was the most recent example of Singapore literature we had read, I found myself flummoxed.
Casting my mind over the books I had read over the past two or three decades, I suddenly realised that I had not had any meaningful contact with local literature... possibly since the 1990s. At least, none that came to mind immediately, save for one book whose witty lines I can still remember.
