As these words are written, US presidential hopeful Kamala Harris has wiped out former president Donald Trump’s lead across seven battleground states. The Vice-President is riding a wave of enthusiasm that has seen a bulge in her campaign finances, and an outpouring of support from the young, black and Hispanic voters.
Having secured the Democratic Party nomination, she is now the first black woman to head a major party ticket in a presidential election.
