Mesh networks and tech battle between protesters and Hong Kong govt

In a crowd of two million, it's difficult to spot the person you're looking for. One Sunday earlier this month, a quarter of Hong Kong's population turned out to march against a proposed extradition treaty with mainland China, blocking the roads and turning the city's highways into pedestrian paths.

But it wasn't just the human jam that made it hard for me to find my colleagues: The airwaves were also jammed, leading to slow or no phone reception.
