I took a month off work when my son was born – half of it was annual leave that I had saved up, and the other half was government-paid paternity leave. It was, I’m not exaggerating, just about the worst four weeks of my life.
It was a month of screaming, crying and all round irritability. And those were just the adults. The baby was worse.
