SINGAPORE - Before Mr William Heinecke gained fame in the 1980s as the American who introduced pizza to Thailand, a nation that then didn’t have a taste for cheese, the American name most associated with the land was Mr Jim Thompson, who popularised Thai silk to the world.

Turns out that Mr Heinecke not only knew Mr Thompson, who disappeared in mysterious circumstances in Malaysia’s Cameron Highlands in March 1967, but also was one of the last to see him alive.
