Hard truths for Macron the peacemaker

The French President’s initiative to defuse the Ukraine-Russia crisis faces many obstacles, not least getting wary Central and East Europeans on board with his ideas.

There is no doubt who dominated European politics this week: French President Emmanuel Macron, who engaged in a frenzy of diplomatic activities designed to save Europe from a potential war.

His shuttle diplomacy between Moscow, the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv and other key European cities as well as the seemingly endless energy Mr Macron put into this effort deserve respect.
