Google v carmakers in 'robotaxi' war

Tech giant's Waymo has a big lead but traditional carmakers may yet be saved by an emerging ecosystem of niche companies offering specialised services.

FRANKFURT • General Motors celebrated being the world's largest carmaker for the 76th straight year in 2007.

It was sitting on US$25 billion in cash. Eighteen months later, it was bankrupt.
