The Palestinian issue has always been an emotive one in Malaysia, and this is hardly surprising for a Muslim-majority country. But

the latest bout of violence in Gaza

has laid bare the divisions among Muslims, as well as between the races, in an already divided polity.

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim put the issue squarely on the domestic front with a high-profile diplomatic campaign to build an international coalition against Israel.
